Andrew Hammond

Head of Professional Development - Chatsworth Schools

After many years serving in the independent sector in various roles – including Head of English & Drama, Director of Studies, Boarding Housemaster, Deputy Head Academic and Headmaster – Andrew moved to the maintained sector and served as Headteacher in a Primary Academy within a MAT and then a large Community Primary School for a local authority. After twenty-one years in schools, Andrew spent two years as Senior Director of Learning at Discovery Education, a global edtech company. He is now proud to be the Head of Professional Development at Chatsworth Schools.

A prolific author, Andrew has written over thirty titles for various educational publishers and a five-book horror fiction series for Hodder. He is a regular contributor to educational periodicals and blogs. Andrew has delivered CPD in over a hundred schools across the UK and overseas and is a regular keynote speaker at educational conferences.

Andrew holds a BA (Hons) QTS from Bath Spa, an MA from King’s College London and is currently studying for an EdD at the University of Buckingham, where he is researching the power of school culture to deliver positive attitudes and behaviours for learning.

Downtime is rare but well spent in Suffolk with his darling wife and four fast-growing children. Hobbies include trying to emulate Monty Don in the garden but failing, and thumping the drums in various blues and jazz bands.
