Professor Bernadette Youens

Professor Bernadette Youens is Head of the School of Education.She joined the School as a Teacher Fellow in Science Education in 1998. Bernie has previously held the roles of Deputy Head of the School of Education, Director for Initial Teacher Education, Course Leader for the PGCE course, Graduate Teacher Programme and the Professional Doctorate (EdD) programme. She contributes to teaching on Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE), the EdD, and supervises Masters, EdD and PhD students. Bernie has a PhD in science and worked in scientific research before working as a secondary science teacher. She worked as a science teacher in local comprehensive schools before her move to the School of Education. Bernie has acted as external examiner for PGCE courses at the University of Birmingham, the Institute of Education, University of London, University of Oxford and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
